Community Platform Transaction Fees: All-in vs Stacked in 2026

Pricing last verified .

The percentage in a pricing table is not yet a comparable cost. It may be the platform’s own cut, with card processing added separately, or it may already include processing. Those two structures answer different questions even when the quoted percentages look close.

That is the central rule for reading these fees: all-in and stacked rates must not be compared as if they were the same kind of quote. The fixed per-transaction charge matters just as much. It is a larger share of a low-priced membership because it is charged once for every transaction, not once for every dollar of revenue.

Quoted rate versus real cost

An all-in quote combines the platform fee and payment processing. A stacked quote lists the platform’s fee first, then adds the processor’s percentage and fixed per-transaction amount. If a recurring-payment surcharge applies, that can sit in the stack as well.

The fee structure table keeps those layers separate. The quoted fee is the platform-facing figure; the real-cost column includes the applicable processing structure and preserves a range where the surcharge is not confirmed.

Pricing last verified 2026-08-26. "Stated" means the provider says so in writing on its own pricing page. Ranges show where the surcharge component is inferred and not published. The low figure excludes it; the high figure includes Stripe's published rate. A single figure means this calculation does not use an inferred surcharge for that plan; it does not mean every input has been independently verified. See the linked source list for each source's direct verification status. Stripe is modelled at 2.9% + $0.30 (Standard US online card rate.)

Skool is the all-in case in this comparison. Its effective Hobby and Pro rates are 10.0% + $0.30 and 2.9% + $0.30, respectively, so the fixed amount is already part of the published-fee structure. Circle, Podia, Mighty Networks, and Heartbeat use a platform fee alongside Stripe, which is why their quoted percentage and real cost are different columns rather than interchangeable labels.

Skool Pro also has a higher published tier for 3.9% + $0.30 when one transaction is above $900. This is a per-transaction rule, not a monthly-revenue tier. The standard member charge of $50/member/month remains in the lower tier, so it is the rate used in the fee examples below. The higher tier should not be silently applied to every transaction.

The current verified structure also means there is no stacked Skool scenario to insert into the comparison. Its processor is included; adding a second processor percentage would describe a different, unverified billing structure.

What the fee layer costs on one common scenario

To isolate the transaction-fee structure, the following table uses the same monthly revenue and 100 member transactions at $50/member/month. Subscriptions are excluded. The fee-only result is therefore about the payment layer, not which platform has the lowest overall subscription cost.

The common revenue scenario is $5,000 per month:

Plan Fee-only cost What the number means
Skool Pro $175 All-in fee, including the fixed per-transaction amount
Podia Shaker $175–$210 Range because the recurring surcharge is inferred
Circle Business $260 Confirmed stacked structure in the current comparison
Mighty Scale $225–$260 Range because the recurring surcharge is inferred
Circle Professional $310 Confirmed surcharge, so one displayed result
Mighty Launch $275–$310 Range because the recurring surcharge is inferred
Heartbeat Grow $300–$335 Range because the recurring surcharge is inferred
Heartbeat Build $425–$460 Range because the recurring surcharge is inferred
Podia Mover $425–$460 Range because the recurring surcharge is inferred
Skool Hobby $530 All-in fee at the higher quoted percentage

Notice the certainty difference as well as the amount. Circle’s result is a single value in this comparison because its recurring surcharge is confirmed. Podia, Mighty Networks, and Heartbeat remain ranges because the available pricing information does not establish who carries that surcharge. A range is the honest output; selecting its lower edge and calling it the real cost would hide an unresolved fee layer.

Why the fixed amount changes low-price tiers

Stripe’s standard processing entry is 2.9% + $0.30. Read it as a percentage plus a fixed amount per transaction, not as one blended percentage. At the same revenue, a lower member price creates more transactions. The fixed part is then charged more times, so it takes a larger share of each payment.

Here is the effect with the revenue held constant and only the member price changed:

Member price Transactions Skool Pro fee-only Circle Professional fee-only
$5/member/month 1,000 $445 $580
$50/member/month 100 $175 $310

That is why a low-priced tier can look attractive in a quoted-rate table and still be expensive in practice. The platform percentage may be unchanged, but the fixed amount is repeated across a larger transaction count. At a higher member price, that same fixed amount is spread over a larger payment. Annual billing can have the same effect: fewer payment events mean fewer fixed charges, even when the revenue is unchanged.

The right comparison therefore has two axes:

Question What to inspect
What does the platform quote? The quoted platform fee and whether processing is included
What leaves each payment? The effective percentage, fixed per-transaction amount, and any surcharge uncertainty
How often is the fixed amount charged? The number of transactions, which depends on member price and billing cadence

Skipping the third question is how low-price tiers get understated. Skipping the first question is how a stacked quote gets mistaken for an all-in quote.

How to use the table

Start with the structure, not the ranking. If the quote is all-in, compare it with another all-in effective rate. If the quote is stacked, add the processor percentage, the fixed per-transaction amount, and any surcharge that is actually established. Do not turn an inferred surcharge into a zero merely because the provider does not show it on the headline pricing page.

Then choose the transaction scenario. A fee-only view answers “what does the payment layer consume?” A total-cost view would add subscriptions and may produce a different result at low volume. Mixing those two views produces a number that is neither a fee-only amount nor a total operating cost.

Finally, check the member price and billing cadence. The same monthly revenue can contain very different transaction counts. That difference is especially important when the processor charges a fixed amount on every payment.
